One of my favorite evenings of this Holiday Season, so far, was this week at the Amy Grant/Vince Gill Christmas Concert with the Nashville Symphony at our beautiful new Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville.
It was a typical Nashville night in Dec.- about 50 degrees (not!)- and 30 or so had cocktails beforehand at "Etch" then walked the short distance to the venue where we had seating just behind the orchestra on stage. What an amazing way to see a performance. Of course, the acoustics was fabulous, but to be so close to the musicians and see the hands on the strings, watch our conductors face, see Amy and Vince interact in such a personal way (whisper that the Governor is in the front row, handing her a snowball stealthily behind his back) and recounting poignant- and funny- memories of their very different lives growing up...the whole evening felt as if I was sitting with great friends in their family room.
Before one of Amy's solo original songs (I think) about the crazy hustle of Christmas preparation, Amy, in her very gentle, always considerate voice that makes you listen to whatever she might say next (note to self, that works) said:
"Women-don't forget to invite yourself to the moment"
"Women-don't forget to invite yourself to the moment"
Wham! Does that hit you the way it hit me??
Of course, my first reaction was to find a pen to write that down! I don't want to forget that! (Habits are hard to break)

But, what a message! Getting there is half the fun. Remembering the "getting there" is often even more fun- or at least makes for great stories later.
Whether the moment is Christmas preparations, a birth or anticipated wedding, waiting for medical news, hitting a huge goal in business, or watching and helping a sick loved one- I need that message to steep into my soul. The journey, the joy and the struggles, and the people along the way are the jewels in life's crown. Don't miss them!
Thank you, Amy, for that one simple, undeniable truth.
