I get asked all the time “How do I build a networking business when I am already too busy to do my current job well enough? I just can’t see how to add another thing to my plate!”
Believe me, I do understand that concern. As a single mom, busy realtor/General and caretaker of my 83 yr old Mom…I get it!
But, I think I have a better question...How are you going to get something better than you have now if you don't do something different?
What I have found is that we meet people everywhere we go in the middle of our daily lives! And, if you naturally like people and are interested in your surroundings, this type of business fits seamlessly into the nooks and crannies of daily life.
Don't leave your business at home, or at your office! Never take off one hat and put on another...wear them all and have fun with it! You never know who is hungry for more information about how they might be able to leave a dead end corporate job, or earn extra money for a shameless shoe fund!
Example?
I’ll own it...I am not a great cook. Actually, I am but just don’t care that much to take the time. However, my kids were going to be home and wanted salmon for dinner. So, loving mom that I am… I asked the nice man behind the counter for his best recipes, and another woman in line said, “Oh I have a great one!”
Don’t you just love friendly people?
Well, she was adorable in cute pink jeans and I told her, “ I have always wanted pink jeans … where did you find them? (Of course, I’d never have the nerve to stick my backside in a color that enhances my “asset.”
After a good laugh, she told me she had a small summer job to earn a bit more money as a teacher to supplement her tutoring jobs, and that she had bought the jeans instead of her first paycheck from a nearby boutique.
One thing led to another, she is interested in hearing more about my business and will be “yachting” with my team this Thursday!
So, a normal grocery trip resulted in a new friend, possible new business partner who can leave an hourly job with no future growth, and a great recipe for salmon! Win, win, win for all of us in no extra time at all!
By the way, this is a delicious recipe! Lay fish on foil, scale side down; spread a layer of Grey Poupon Mustard on top, then drizzle any syrup over that. Close the foil into a tight pouch around entire fish and cook at 400* approx. 20 minutes-by my oven.
Delicious!
